Hungary is looking to duplicate the last qualification success
Participants of the World Floorball Championships 2014 will be decided in qualifications at the end of January. One of the six regional qualification tournaments will be played in Valmiera, Latvia on 28th January – 1st February 2014. Five teams will take part in this tournament – Norway, Latvia, Hungary, Italy and Liechtenstein. As the fourth participant we introduce – Team Hungary.
Hungary is currently ranked 16th in the IFF Rankings which are based on standings in two previous World Floorball Championships (WFC). Historically the best results for Hungary were 10th place in WFC 1996, 12th place in WFC 2006 (2nd in B-Division) and 13th place in WFC 2004 (3rd in B-Division). In 2010 Hungary failed to qualify for WFC Final Round, losing the decisive match to Denmark, but in 2012 they qualified as the best 3rd placed team in 3 European qualification groups. This time around Hungary is looking to duplicate 2 years old success.
Team Manager of Hungary István Horváth: “The most important goal of our team is to progress, play well and put ourselves in good position to qualify for World Championships in Gothenburg. Our preparation process for this tournament was good, although playing more friendly matches would have been better. Since the last WFC our National team has changed a bit – we have some new players and a new coach - Zoltán Bedő.”
15 players on the National team are playing in Hungarian Championships, with the most representatives coming from “Phoenix Fireball SE” (5 players) and “Dunai Krokodilok SE” (4 players). 5 players are playing for lower division clubs in Sweden, Finland and Switzerland.
