Day 5: World Floorball Championships 2014 participants are set

On the fifth and final day of the World Floorball Championships Qualification in Valmiera, Latvia two matches were played. Latvia beat Italy (11:5) and qualified for the Final Round. Norway got a very convincing win over Liechtenstein (25:0).

 

Early match between Norway and Liechtenstein wasn’t crucial. Norway had already qualified, but Liechtenstein was in the 5th place with no points. Norway coaches also gave rest to some of their leaders, but that didn’t change the result. Norway celebrated the largest victory in international matches in National Team history – 25:0. In this match Norway’s forward Willy Fauskanger scored his 100th international goal for Norway and received a special shirt with number 100 after the match. The best players of this match were Alexander Nacher (Liechtenstein) and Glen Evensen (Norway).

In the late game Latvia played against Italy for the second place in this qualification group and ticket to Gothenburg. Italians started the match very well and got a surprising two goal lead. Latvians woke up after the shocking start and scored next 6 goals ensuring comfortable lead. Italy had some chances to get back in the game, but Latvians were too strong tonight. Final score of this match was 11:5 in favor of Latvia. The best players of this match were Artis Raitums (Latvia) and Gianluca Amstutz (Italy).

Norway and Latvia qualified for the 10th World Floorball Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden from EUR4 qualification group. Italy’s goal difference was not good enough to go through as one of the best 3rd placed teams. Full standings can be found here.

 

Scoring leaders in EUR4 qualification group were Thomas Straete (Norway) with 17 points (3+14), Ketil Kronberg (Norway) with 15 points (3+12) and Willy Fauskanger (Norway) with 13 points (10+3). Full player statistics can be found here.
