Day 3: Hungary gets the first victory, Norway stays unbeaten

On the third day of the World Floorball Championships Qualification in Valmiera, Latvia two matches were played. Hungary got the first victory in the tournament beating Liechtenstein, but Norway kept their unbeaten record with win over Italy.

 

In the early match Italy was able to show some resistance to Norway. Italians played very tight and aggressive defense which allowed them to hang in the match for 45 minutes. In the beginning of the 3rd period they managed to close the gap to two goals (3:5), but that was the last success for Italians in this match. In the remaining time Norway scored 6 unanswered goals and set the final score – 11:3. Best players of the match were goalkeeper Ronny Horn (Italy) who made 33 saves and forward Thomas Straete (Norway) who collected 4 points (1+3).

In the evening match Liechtenstein suffered 3rd defeat in three games losing to Hungary (3:15). Hungary started the match very strong scoring 8 unanswered goals in the first period. It was very important for Hungarians to score as many goals as possible to improve their overall goal difference in fight for tickets to Gothenburg. Hungary’s game plan was working pretty well for the first 40 minutes and they managed to build 12 goal lead. In the final period Liechtenstein woke up, scored 3 goals, and kept the score leveled for this segment of the match. Best players of the match were Dennis Schmidt (Hungary) who collected 8 points (4+4) and Markus Ledergerber (Liechtenstein) who scored one goal.

After the third day Latvia and Norway have the lead in EUR4 qualification group with 4 points. Full standings can be found here.

 

Scoring leaders after Day 3 are Ketil Kronberg (Norway) with 11 points (3+8), Dennis Schmidt (Hungary) with 10 points (5+5) and Willy Fauskanger (Norway) with 9 points (7+2). Full player statistics can be found here.
